Practical session - Bases

To start...

Cleanse, tone, moisturise - prepping the skin is very important!

Ex-foliating the skin (usually a few hours before hand to avoid redness) is also important in order to create a smooth surface to work on.

Its not always the product itself that determines the perfect outcome, but the preparation of the skin beforehand!

Different types of natural bases include Dewy, Matt, Satin etc.

Different types of coverage;

Sheer coverage - This gives a light coverage on the skin in order to even out tone, but may not hide pigmentation, dark spots, acne etc. It is suitable for spotless skin or for daily wear if you want a natural coverage. An alternative of this is tinted moisturiser which has the same effect.

Medium coverage - This is the most versatile of coverages. It will cover most of the flaws and spots but may not be very high in pigmentation. Medium coverage foundations achieve natural, flawless results when combined with the right finish.

Full coverage- Full coverage foundations are great for damaged skin or for evening wear. Usually this coverage is too heavy for daytime wear but works perfectly for parties and special evening events. Also great for photos as imperfections are hidden under flash light cameras.

Tip - To create a 'make-up free' base try to only cover parts of the skin that need covering, for example spots or blemishes but always make sure the colour is matched perfectly to the models skin otherwise this trick will not be effective.

Tip- To create a 'dewy' base apply moisturiser to your models skin in areas that make the look pop!

Tip- To create a 'matt' base the finish is the most important part. Apply translucent powder (using a puff works best) all over to create the perfect outcome.
