The power of red lipstick!

Red lipstick is rife with connotations, some flattering, others considerably less so!

For centuries red lipstick was seen as immoral. A woman who wore lipstick in medieval times would condemn herself to hell, and eventually a law was passed banning lipstick, considering it a sign of witchcraft.

Queen Elizabeth I was a woman who elevated the use of lipstick, especially red into something regal, instead of seedy. It wasn't until the golden age of Hollywood, with its technicolor films, that red lipstick came to be accepted throughout society. It became something desirable and widely popular. Actresses such as Jean Harlow and Marilyn Monroe sported this look perfectly, with their feminine prowess shining boldly through.

In today's society red lipstick continues to be extremely popular. It is seen as a sign of self-assurance, collective confidence and female strength.
